Hey there! For the next 30 days, I will be creating marketing material for a startup called In Stock to expand their customer base and build new business partnerships. In this post, I will walk you through what makes an ad successful. To explore my entire project, click here.

When my alarm goes off in the morning, I have a routine. I check the time, my messages, and all of my social media accounts. And most people do the EXACT same thing! Social media has become a part of our daily lives. It’s how we stay connected, informed, and entertained.

This means the absolute best platform for advertisements is social media. Thousands upon thousands of businesses have thrown away traditional marketing methods and adapted to creating Facebook and Instagram ads. The average person views about 5,000 ads per day!

The question is, how do you make your ads stand out from the rest? After researching this topic, I’ve found three essential components of a successful ad.

The three keys are:

Be Succinct-

No one wants to read a lengthy advertisement. If the reader has to decipher what the ad is for, you’ve already lost.

Be Bold-

Don’t be afraid to get punchy. You want to use language that stands out and captivates the reader. Whatever it is you’re advertising, hit the reader in the eyes with it!

Don’t Compete-

Let your ad be YOUR ad! Don’t try to copy other successful ads because those ads are unique to those products.

Let’s Dive Deeper

To get into specifics, there are topics of colors, language, and approach.

Colors are an important factor to consider when choosing images and text colors in advertisements. Colors such as green and yellow are known to trigger happy emotions. It is important to incorporate one of the two in the text colors.

Language drives the reader to take action. Incorporating “you” language and providing clear directions are essential to add success. You want the reader to feel like you’re speaking directly to them. In a sense, you want them to feel called out. Making the directions clear makes it easy for the reader to choose to take action.

The approach to the ad is a factor that can vary depending on the product. Your goal is to evoke an emotional response that will further encourage your reader to take action. Two effective emotive responses are based on empathy and creativity.

Feelings of empathy cause the audience to relate to the product. Things like kids and dogs trigger this kind of response. It causes the reader to see how the product could mesh into their own life and the lives of the people they love.

Creative responses are the feelings of one’s mind being blown away. You’re giving them ideas that are innovative, new, impressive, and unheard of. Shock value is a keyword here. This approach is a great one to take if you have a product that is the first of its kind.

I’m in the process of creating ads for a company called In Stock. They provide a service where you can instantly find name brand products that you desire in your area and provide same day pick up or deliveries. Living in the COVID times, this startup is a real life-saver.

My goal for these advertisements is to take an empathetic approach while appealing to their tech-savvy audience. Bold colors and direct language in these ads will help this startup get the real attention it deserves.
